I walk into the woods and learn about the Sweetwater Maiden. Deeper in the forest, I walk into a Scottish Shieling. My feet touch the ground as I wonder. Do I belong here? The land holds the stories of removal, deportation, escape from poverty and war. It is a privilege to be here. To walk this land, to witness the 400 year old maple tree. This is truly a privilege, or is it a crime? My ancestors have been removed and displaced and deported. For now, this land is public. This land welcomes everyone. History reminds me that privilege comes with a cost and a consequence.
